Eric Biel

IN MEMORIAM, FONTHEIM INTERNATIONAL, LLC & GLOBALWORKS FOUNDATION

We mourn the passing of our wonderful friend and colleague Eric Biel.

Eric contributed tremendously to the fields of business and human rights, with a particular emphasis on worker rights, and trade policy. He brought brilliance, kindness, and compassion to all of his work and personal relationships. He spent most of his career in the public sector with civil society organizations, executive branch positions, and as senior Senate staff.

Eric was a pioneer in teaching the law of business and human rights at Georgetown Law School and beyond. He was loved by his students and a scholarship has been named in his memory.

As part of leadership at the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs for five years, he led ILAB’s work on a diverse set of important projects and diplomatic initiatives. Before that, he held a series of positions, including a leadership position with Human Rights First.

Eric’s ability to bridge differences between adversaries and draw respect from both sides was legendary.

He most recently played a vital role at the Fair Labor Association, while also serving as a Senior Advisor to both Fontheim International, LLC and GlobalWorks Foundation, and as a member of the American Leadership Initiative Advisory Board. Earlier in his career, he was General Counsel & Senior Vice President at Fontheim.

We miss Eric and know that none can take his place.
